Society-that society which represents the official charity of the Roman Catholic Church.i Wellington, and has already tdone much foe the poor in all parts of the city -rhnds that .it is urgently in need of outside .help, and; & committee of representatives from the different Roman Catholic congregations has been set up to make arrangements for a social gathering that is to be given in the Town Hall onrfuesday next.V-Mr. Martin. Probably lew Wellington people.have any idea •of the wide scope of the society, and so it may be said briefl? that,there are two-branches, the mon s and ,-the ■ women's, both of which work among the poorand- the. sick, while the 'men .havo a,special, branch devoted to work among ■sailors, and they also "visit prisoners. The'wo■men, in. addition,to their work in alleviation of. poverty, look after neglected : children, women .and girls who are ill and require attention, and they also-work among-fallen girls.
