' A meeting.of the Society for'the Protection of Women and 1 Children was'held yesterday afternoon, Mrs. A. K. Atkinson - presiding. Others present were Mesdames Fell, Kirkcaldie, Hoby, and Evans, and apologies for absenoe wero received from 1 Mrs.. Holgate and Miss Brown. ' • It was decided to hold tho annual meeting on Tuesday, October ■ 19, when, his Excellency the Governor has' consented to preside, It -was reported that several cases of the alleged Jll-treatmont of children were being dealt , with, and it .was agreed that two cases of failure to.maintain should bo taken to Court. A case of the alleged ilftreatmcnt of ohildren is to be-investigated. - The'- following subscriptions were acknowledged : —.£l Is. each from Lady" Plunket, Mr. G. Lukin, and Mr. E. Tregear; 10s. 6d. each from Messrs. Archibald Clark and Son, and Mr. A. S. liiss; 6s, from Miss E.'-Greenwood; j ss. each from Mrs. D. Anderson and Mr. W. M'Lean; is. from Miss M'Lean; 2s. Gd. from Mr.' W. H: Green and from Mr. F. Cohen.
