October 8, 11 p.m.) * London, October 8.., The Government's Irish Land Purchase Bill is being considered in Committee of the House of Lords. Tho House, by 111 votes to 2G, deleted Clause 41, involving the practically compulsory, acquisition of land by the Estates Commissioners outside congested areas. Severn! clauses dealing with the constitution of the proposed neii: Congested " Districts Board (half Of whose members would, under the Bill,'bo elected by the local authorities) were also deleted. -V: Mr. John Redmond, Leader of the Nationalists, has cabled to the United Irish' League in Americai-r- • ' ! A great crisis has arisen In the Irish struggle. The Lords are engaged: in destroying the Land Bill. A general election is certain within a few weeks, when the veto of the House of Lords will be -at stake. With the veto will disappear tho last obstacle to Home Rule. Mr. T.,P, O'Connor (for quarter of a century president of tho United:lrish,League) is going to America to ask Irish Americans for prompt and-generous aid. . .' The "Pall Mall Gazette" states' that tho Nationalists ore desperately in .need'of'funds, their, subscriptions being . lea than in 1908.
