In reply to a question in tho Seriato lis to whether any steps aro being taken to secure reciprocity between' Australia and New Zealand, especially with Vviow to Betting Australian fruit and wines admitted to' the Dominion on moro advantageous tomis, tho Minister for Customs, Senator Best, stated that Mr Deakin and he had. intended to discuss the subject with Sir Joseph Ward on tho latter arriving in' Melbourne, but that was rendered impossible by the fact that Sir Joseph Ward had returned direct to New Zealand.' He (Senator Best) would confer with Mr. Deakin with a view to opening negotiations''with the rvew Zealand Government.
