King Edward has summoned the Primc'Minister, Mr. Asquith, to attend the Royal reside aco at Balmoral, Scotland. Thorn aro many speculations in tho lobby as to the cause of this unexpected command, occurring directly after Lord Rosobery, Lord Cawdor, and Lord Jafaes of Hereford had visited the King. Lord Cawdor (who was First Lord of the Admiralty in the last Unionist Government) is credited with being in favour of the House bf Lords rejecting the Budget, while Lord Lansdowns (tlnionibt Leader in the Lords) is believed to disapprove rejection. In remaining in Scotland, King Edward has altered his previous arrangements, as ho had arranged to return to London on Monday. LiaUOR LICENSES. IRISH OPPOSITION FOLLOWED BY CONCESSION. . LONBON'i~COMPLAINT. (Rec. October 6, 10.15 p.m.) London, October 6. The debato on the liquor licenses schedule of the Finance Bill was continued in the House of Commons. ■ Many members emphasised tho hard case of publicans in London (where, it is claimed, assessment on the dnfiual' value imposes an unfair burden, as compared with other parts of the country). The Irish 'Nationalists continued to vote with the Opposition, reducing tho Government majority to 49. Finally Mr. Asquith agreed to make tho minimum duty "in Ireland £5 in areas with a population of below 10,000, and £7 .103. in more populous' areas! ; Tho Nationalists expressed satisfaction with this concession. The Government afterwards refused to extend the samo privilege to London.
