Up till Wednesday afternoon last Wai■korohihi; had attracted much attention, and .on one occasion it played for over 22 hours without intermission. Soon after Waikorohihi ceased: Pohutu's Cauldron (TeHoru) became actiye, sending up good shots of. from 20 to SO ■feet- at..;.frequent' intervals. Pqhutu Geyser .commenced' to play at'3.2o p.m. on Wednesday, 'and ■ continued - active. for. an,' hour. ■ Several tourists -who wero in the reserve at the time ;were'delighted with these thermal eruptions. ;Oii : Thursday at 3 p.m. Wairoa Geyser was ■called upon to play, the necessary, soap beitig '.applied by a "member of a, visiting party. .Within', 16. minutes from the time of the.apiplication'of the soap Wairoa responded, sending, a;-column':-of steaming , water to■ a height 'of ; about' 120 feet, to the wonder and. delight, of ■the."2so people: present. Wairoa continued in a state-of eruption for about 45 minutes, and'as ail the..other geysers, with, the exception-of Pohutu, were-ployino; dt"the same time, visitors had. a good view-of the reserve 'under very favourable circumstances.',.
