Tho weather was all that could be desired; and attracted a large number, of .viei* tors'.: Tho attendance .was a record. The • president (Mr. J. H. Mentiplay), in welcoming .the membors. and Visitors, referred to the fact.that that...was'tho twenty-third annivor-. sary.of the club, which was started in 1888 by several leading citizens of Wellington. Tho first fanio was played on : a private greo'u at Thornon, rind the present property was acquired and opened'in 1887, when tlie membership numbered 64.
