Clom was very 6ore, and (iawain has been up no time. The' start for the last raco was spoilt by Purakau; getting a four lengths' advantage and winning from end to end.' ; It-was a good race ior socond place. The Hutt-trained horse Marengo was one of the heavily-supported candidates, but a bad start spoiled his chances, and he could only finish fourth. He ; was'running on at the finish; however;and had it not been for his bad luck at tho barrier, he would have returned his supporters a dividend.
