The annual concert in connection iritb the Otaki State School was given" on Wednesday evening, when tho To^vn. Hall was packed. With' the exception, of • a few items the programme submitted was a very good one, and, reflected credit on the school staff. The programme consisted of-items-by'the following':— Selection, orchestrasong, school children; comic song," Mr. E. Bills;" hornpipe, Master Becker; song, Mr. G. Kirk; pianoforte solo, Master C.'.Williams;' recitation,' Mrs. Barclay; song, Mrs. C.. Smith; Maypole, school children;,, song, Mr. C. Speak 1 , comic song, Mr, E. Lanchester; violin eolo, Mr. Vnnn; step-dance, Misses Hall' (2); quintet, - Messrs. Bell, Pike, Sims, Eyres, and Jones; pianoforte solo, Mrs. Jones; song and. dance, Master Norman Dentice (Wellington); bagpipe selection, Mr. Forbes. The programme concluded with a gipsy scene, tho Mjsses Johansen (2) being the ■leading performers.' Tho Otaki Maoris are somewhat indignant over, tho action of tho trustees of the Native College as regards invitations to the opening ceremony .on Monday next. At a,, meeting on Wednesday night this, feeling was. expressed, and it is the wish of the l Natives not ! only to .entertain the' Governor and Ministers,, but all Europeans and visiting' Natives. , A largo number ,of Natives will arrive : to-morrow, when the matter will be further discussed. , A rumour has gained, currency here that Sunday trains .will not run'to Otaki this sum-, mer, 'and keen disappointment is expressed. It had been thonght that a deputation might wait o'nithe. Mjuisteri asking that these trains leave Wellington at about. 8.30:, a.m., instead of .'lO a.m.,'and-thus give, visitors an opportunity of .having a. longer stay with their friends here.
