! .(From Our Sseclal Besorler.) HL'TT VALLEY TRAMWAYS. ■ ■ , . A -WINDFALL. . Tho Pi;imo Minister's announcement, as telegraphed from Aiickland, to tho effect that he has made" arrangements by which local bodies may'borrow /inonoy at 31' per cent., '.is ..considered likely; to prove' a veritable windfall to the II ntt Valley Tramway Board, .which has recently; decided .to ask tho electors- of tho tramwhy district to sanction tho raising of' a loan of JjSO.OOO for a tramway .system, tho rate not to exceed 4J per cent/ . .'' Speaking to a reporter on the • subject, Mr. J. W. M'Ewan, .ohairman of ,the, board,'stated: "If-wo avail ourselves of the opportunity presented/by the Prime Minister's arrangement, it may mean-that the. board will be able to, obtain the sum "they - .require , at. 31 per cent., • which will: represent an , animal saving of XSOO to the ratepayers. Consequently this would make it more probable than ever that a tramway, /service would be .'run ;T>thqut. avloss.' X think, that such" an-alteration'wduld decidedly- encoiirage the ratepayers to vote' for the loan proposal." • ; --- The next meeting of the board'will be, held' on-Wednesday. ■ , .i ; / / - •" - - 1 JOTTINGS The pupils ■ Of tho 6ccondary department •of tho Petone District High School have made a presentation-of six volumes-of Eiiskin's works and one. of-Browning's to Miss Myers, who has been ' appointed *.to/the Hutt - District High School.
