Scott Btatcs that, although a fortnight has , elapsed since his firm's tender was accepted, they Bad not yet received, official intimation of its acceptance; 'In the meantime tho'firm had accepted other contracts' which' would take several months to fulfil, and would make it impossible for them to undertake the Government contract. Iα addition the firm have decided to go in for two or throe manufacturers' lines which will be standard work for tho employers of the firm. In these circumstances their tender for railway'locomotives had been withdrawn. .. ' ' Owing to Messrs.' Scott Bros., of Christ-church,-having withdrawn their accepted tender' for the construction of ton balanced compound ebgines class A, tho Govornmont decided yesterday morning to accopt tho next and only tender—that of Messrs.
