(From' Oar Suecial Besorler.) . ■ ■ —r —r* — ■ ..-,,:• ':■ PETONE, TENNIS CLUB.. In presenting the annual report of the Petone Tonnis Club, the committeelrepprts'a decided improvement -in .'the ', club generally, as regards membership, enthusiasm, and success of" the team in the 6up : competition. Tho membership of the club lis ~a .very decided factor (owing., chiefly, to'removals),' yet the influx of new .members last season practically compensated: for tho loss of. active members of tho previous year, with-the-result that the credit balance is.slightly better. During the season,: improvements to the two: courts' were effected by : asphalting : a portion-of them and, after •the. termination, of the. competition matches, a working.bee was/formed-,'and the, result of tho ;men's eftoris.is 'a very satisfactory one, having: enhanced: the:courts very'much from a.player's.pointof view. The chosen ten. who represented: the club in • the . accounted;very well.for themselves, considering the number of. young, players who' took'part, and Petone finished. fourth in-'a 'field of -seven. At the different tournaments,-eight, trophies in all were won by the several members, of the, club. The committee advises that a team be again; entered forythe cup competition during the coming season. The prospects for- this season appear "to bo very good, and it is"expected that there will'\be a "larger 'active membership. .:;■■..
