A bazaar, having for its objects the repainting of St. Augustine's Church- and reducing the debt on the building, was opened at the Drill-» Hall, Potone, yesterday afternoon. Despite the inclemency of tho weather, the attendance was. satisfactory. Tho Mayor (Mr. J. W. Jl'Ewan) formally opened the bazaar and \tished it every success. The hall was tastefully decorated, and tho various stalls, with their busy attendants, looked very attractive. The stallholders were as follow:—Ladies' Guild work—Mesdames Marsdcn, f Falder, W. Members of the Tramway Board naye considered.tho question from various points_of view during the.past feven months -the first meeting was'held on February 16- , and on &ptember 8 they decided to. ask ■ tho electors of the tramway district to record their voles on a proposal to raise' .£BO,OOO for "a" tramway v service. The question of route must, however, be decided, and, for that purpose, a meeting will be held on October 6. It is at this point-that differences of opinion arise/and, without doubt,,tho .point will, lead to an extensive discussion. As soon, however, as a de.c'?lon," arrived at and tho route agreed upon, the board can get to work, address the necessary meetings,' and hold the poll. • /There are other questions, also that call for decision before definite-stops can be-taken. The ■board; must determine whether the motive power is to be .supplied by gas producer„or'by steam engines, the number of cars to be run and the matter ofsites for.the power-house and car-sheds, etc. A comploto scheme, v and one with/expert backing, is essential before the fatopayers can fairly be called upon to vote. ;'.'■ '■• •; 'v' : .. /JOTTINGS.. '.."''. '.';, -. '." The .half-yearly' re-union of the '.Wellington' and.Petone Catholic Clubs Was held- at "the premises of the latter club last night, there being a good.attendance. 'Mr. A.,' Coles, president of the Petone Club, extended a welcome to the visitors, and the evening was spent pleasantly in cards,' billiards, etc. Supper was subsequently served. ',A meeting;of the Hutt Park Committeo l will be held in a, day or two to discuss a proposal ■to hold races on the park.-- - ■■■ '/ . .In'the first round of the Crystalate Cup in-ter-club i billiard competition (played on Monday night at the Petone Catholic Club-rooms), C. A'sher beat H. Barton, the points standine at 300 to 283. The best break in the evoning's play was 22, and was made by'Ashcr. '
