Mountain King.—Driving north at the intermediate level has been advanced a further distance of :8 feet for the week. -Tba country is still an excellent class of andraito, with numerous mineral seams striking iuto.the reef. ' At present we are engaged taking the reef down, which is about 9' inches in width, and is composed of high-grade ore, showing colours and dabs well distributed through it. The leading stope has been carried along to the south face, and the timbering placed in position. The No. 2 stope has been started from the-main rise, and carried'along a distance-of 8 feet. The. reef ia 12 inches in width, showing strong colours of gold'through it. ■ . ■ v Handsworth TJnltcd.-In the winze on No. 2 leader, from No. 2 level, ,the main, leader is yielding rich ore, in which gold can be freely aeon at each breaking-down, but scarcely .good enough to class as picked ; stone. The cross leader is still in evidence right across the dig, and continues to yield small specimen stone, but as it has to bo taken out as sinking pro.gresse3, it only came to'hand in small quantities, not sufficient to warrant .telegraphing. In the low level excellent country ib bolng penetrated, and. the leader is fairly well, defined,. so that it is only a'question of getting along far enough to pick up the rich run from the level above, as there is no doubt' about it coming down to this level in my opinion. Gold is showing ia the low level. There are ' small carbuncles of .stone, showing rich gold. Tho leader came down in the eastern side of the drive, and has a strong underlie weat. Tho manager considers it is No. 1 leader, and not '{he one ho is now sinking on; but it settles any doubt about the gold coming down to the low level. Waihi Grand Junction.—Tho mine superintendent in his report for August Btates that at No. 4 lovel, No. 4 winzo, on No. 4 lode, width of ore in tho winze is 28 inches, value £7 18s. 9d.; No. 8 winze, Bamo lode, width of ore 39 inches, value £2 19a. 9d.; No. 4 winze, No. 1 lodo, width of quartz 14 feet 6 inches, the foot wall being exposed, but not the hangingwall. value £1 Ba. 7d. No. 5 level, north crosscut: At 210 feet the hangingwall of. a lode, presumably tho Martha, was cut, and at 248 feet the foot.wall was reached. Tho crossout is not at right angles' across the lode, so that the true width cannot yet be ascertained. Thero. was a width of 5 feet near the hangingwall worth £4 7s. 6d., but the average value of the 38 foot of quartz passed through is £1 os. 6d. In the drive oast on No. 4 lode, tho average width of ore taken 'out is 76 inches, value £2 Us. 7d. At 61 feet a crosscut was driven 15 feet north. Tho full width of the ore at this point is 15 feet, and tho value £2 15s, In the drive west, on No. 4 lode, the average value of the quarts won was £4 15s. lid. The north drive is along the low-grade ore, but the full width of Iho' ore towards the footwall is not exposed. At.Bl feet a crosscut was driven 2; feet into the hangin-. wall, exposing white quartz. A. distance of 5 feet has been drjv.cn towards the footwall showing good ore. Tho footwall is. not yet.reached. Inland Telegraphio Address Telephone I■• "Gruar, Auckland." . No. 2537.
