TAIHAPE V. RANGITIKEI.
■The following is an extract from the Taihape •paper's"report of,.one of-Mr. Smith's speeches: —"This• election- has' become a 'sort of--local election. ; Huhterville,.'which regarded-itself as ihe hubof.theunivorse", had.two candidates, Marigaweka. two, '.and Taihape only enough too;,' (Applause.);'. This was' Taihapes chance, and they should avail themselves of it. Although;- they -were, all.'working' -for' the 'general goodi it was only right to, - have a'.local -candidate, Valid as charity began, at home it was as well if there ; was. anything-to giye,away ; that it should be given as.close at home as possible."
