Short, and K, Mothes, J.l'.'s, prosided over yesterday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court at Petone. Sergeant Forster, represented the'police. , Four;lacfs, one aged ten, two aged eleven, and the other thirteen,-were charged in the • u ™'»'Court with stealing n quantity of ' daffodils on .Soturday, the property of Dr. W. ; Perry. According to the chief • witness, Dr. i trP'i- 6 '""' a ery ' nr B e quantity of daffodils stolen, some of them being very valuJ able. The.boys were admonished by the Bench and convicted'and. discharged. ' Sidney, Butler, greengrocer, of Petone, proceeded against Andrew Alexander, hawker, of Alicetowii, to recover £3, being the balance of the unsubscribed"cost of a 'vehicle...-Mr. Pethe- '. rick appeared for plaintiff,' and Mr. Jackson • tor. defendant,. There is .-'a Mediterranean tunny, or rather the cast of one, which, no • doubt, '■ followed. out:. some steamer, and 'canio ashore on the Petone beach. V ; A social was held at St., Augustine's v Hall, Petone,-last evening for the'purpose of-present-ing the shiold.won ,by the Poueko Lodge, U.A.0.D., during the year's card tournament.The Poneke Lodge has won it four years out' of five, the ionly other winner being tho Epuni Lodge, A.Oj;. In' view; of 'the fact that the finalcontest was'not fraught with much interest, twou special prizes were offered by. the three lodges (the other is the Loyal Petone Lodge", X0..0.F.;. M.U.), of 15s. each' for. euchre and cribbage, and these'.are being competed for. ■'■The' presentation , was , made,-. ' by'". Bro.
