Hawkins, of Pehiatua, has been selected an tho speakor to address tho public meeting on the evening of tho dato montioncd. ' .': •' - : Mr. G. do S. Baylis, superintendent of Mti- 1 cultural experiments, paid another visit to Pahiatua lust week, and, in company with tho secretary of tho local branch o£ the New Zealand Farmers-' Union, inspected tho land where the experiments with grasses, root crops, aud manures are to be carried out. ' Mr.' Baylis was very favourably impressed with, tho land at Ronwi and Mangahao, nnd thought the limy land at Mangaraniarama admirably spited far experimenting with grasses and manures for the pastures.- - - ....,': . A gun club has been formed at Ngaturi.: ~ Tho membership of the Pahiatua-Akitio A. and P. Association is steadily increasing At the meeting held last week, 13 new members were eleoted. . , : The Pahiatua Debating Society's "wind-up" social was held in tho'Olyrosjc Theatro on Friday evening, and the large number :present - thoroughly enjoyed tho.programme which had '.pwn arrenpted. The first part of tho evening took the form of a concert, and, owing to tho I lengthy programme, no oncorcs were allowed, although several items well merited them, bongs wero rendered by Misses Sayers, Robins, and Eichardson, and by Messrs, T. Manifold, iF. Milne, and'C. M'Adam, nnd a duct by Meesrs. JlamfoW and Jlilno. Messrs. W. H.Hawkins nnd TV. Burns gave recitations, and the accompaniments for the staffers were played by: Mrs. Manifold and Miss Cox. A mock banquet was then hold, nnd the following' toasts were honoured :-"Pahii»tua Debating Society" (Mr. Manifold), responded to by Mi. Dobbio, who gavo a short outline of the progress of the eooiety sinco its inooptioni "OlEoera of the Society" (Mr,. W. Taylor), responded to by .Mr. Dalloston; "The Visitors" (Mr; Evans), responded to by Mr. Godsoj "The Ladies"' (Mr. Bnmcs), responded to,by Mr. M'Adara. During :ths proceedings Mr. Hawkins paid a very high oomphment' to. the secretary (Miss Storniont) concerning the splendid work, sho hod done during the past session, and prosented her with a silver-mounted inkstand, and a hand-somely-bound-, book of Longfellow's poeme. bpecial .reference was also made to'tho pro.sident (Mr. Dallaston).
