[•• The atone, says'the managor, is highly mineral- ' ised, but no gold has been seen in it-lately, r and ho now intends to squaro up tho bottom » and start driving towards tho breaks to ascer» d tain' the in that direction. In the intere mediate 'level the .reef is, .very 'changeable; tho r stone is'of a. rplber. mineralised description/ >• but the importance of this as a prospccting : | 3' drive and the favourable' nature of tho country in the opinion of the manager warrant its a continuance* ' v

Kii'rangatmkc.—During the past week tlio road cvci crosscut in ; the. Karangflhake mine lias jeen extended 26ft. The' country being passed .hroußhiis of a flrat-class description for cany-, nc cold-bearing reefs, and is interlaced witp imalf quartzleaders and silica veins. Ine rcc*. n the manager's opinion, will probably be to land in tlio course of a few days, and should ,lto country coutinuo as at present, good ore ihould be obtained. At.the Taukini level drivne on tlio northern trend of the Eoyal reef t< been continued, ISft. having been attained p :o date. Tho rccf'in the fa.ee is a fine body of quartz, about 6ft. in width,.tho oro/snowing ;ood mineral indications throughout. £ Pride of ToUatoa.—ln the Pride of Tokatca £ mine tho drive going east on the footwaii loao , lias been extended 18ft." in all. The lodo (says tlio manager) shows plenty of 6i7.e, and the i country being penetrated is highly l favourable, y being a network of. mineral veins, but owing to the belt of flinty country .fltill being in cxistr * once the. indication veins have as yet had no I effect on tho quartz. Tho No. 2 stoppon the j. cross lode is well in .hand, and the lode, contiuuca to look most encouraging, ore-of a good a duality coming to hand at each breaking] down, j From this, during the week, a quantity of T picked stone was selected, viz., 2Zlb.. In. all, 351b. j picked stone have been lodged at the local Dank f for safe custody. * Old ITnuraki.—The drive south on No. B reef, c 4000 ft. level, in tho Old Hauraki mine, Thames, c is now in 90ft. In breaking down on Friday, j says-tho manager, several colours of . free gold wero obtained from the centre of the face by j dish washing, whilo in the prospcct from' the { top portion of the reef colours o? gold wore also seen in the stone. ! The reef averages Bm. and-looks well. Tho winze on No. 9 reef , below the 300 ft. level is down 34ft. Gin. Tho water .16 I again troublesome, and the manager is of opin- 1 ion that it will'continue to bo 60 until .ho.. 9 J reef is cut by. tho 400 ft. level, which, according to survey, should bo accomplished in another j.oft. or 12ft. of driving. The water in tho mino has eased off considerably, enabling tho pumy to copo with it easily.' . Tairua Golden Hills.—At tho low level tho contractors in the Tairua Golden' Hills mine have practically completed their distance of 300 ft. of driving. Tenders will bo called for driving a further distance of 2Coffc., more or less, tho company reserving the right to discontinne hand labour as soon as machines are available. During the* past. week (says, the manager) the ground has been of a'specdier nature, though of Bimilar. character to that obtaining for somotimo past. In No. 3. level the' south rise has been cleared of nuartz to within 30ft. of tho level. At this point timbers will bo put in. qs . a break to the quartz in transit, from No. . 2 level. When the bottom of tho rise has been cleared timbers and, tho necessary parses will, be • placed in position,, and stoping above No. 3 level ' will? ho put in operation. At No. 2 level the leading stopo 'south of the crosscut looks well, the ore body being fully sft, wide and 1 of- good value. May Queen.—lmporting upon the operation? carried : out in tho May'.Queen> mine, Thames, during the past week the manager States that in tho Queen of- Beauty section the crosscut to cut the Queen of ."Beauty .rebf at the lMOft. level is' in 145 ft. from tho chamber. This was about the. point ; at which it was orpected to meet the reef, that was according to the' underlie at No. 9 level, and its nonappearance is accounted for in :.thc fact that the underlie is much flatter between No. 9 and the ICOOft. level. The country how being penetrated is more blocky, and water is filtering through' tho joints, bo the. reef possibly is not now far off. No. 9 level: In'the south drive the leading stopo on the Queen of "Beauty reef and brancn.lcader:isvbeing carried along, and a full supply- of very nice mineralised onarta is jjeirig won in tho north crosscut. The work of stoning out No. 4 lode abovo the level is-proceeding as usual, and the quartz coming to hand frequently shows good dabs of gold, while a. pound or two of picked stono is "occasionally'selected. Intermediate level: The drive on the north-west lodo is now ready for stoping. l Tlio leading and second slopes on No.' 4 lode are being brought forward to the junction of. the north-west lode, thus providing good ventilation. .No. 6 level: Stoping is-being carricd on as usual on tho footwall branch of No.* 4 lode abovo the level. The quartz coming to hand still shows gold, and is of a fair srrade. The winze on No. 4 lode, westward of tho junction of the hangingwall: branch, is down 9ft., and has been broken down for that distance, •good dabs .of gold being : seen in tho quartz: The manager of. the iloanataiari section re-; ports that the'.'main No. 3 level face is now in n further 'Bft., being, composed of solid quartz of h kindly description, but so far no gold has been seen.
