Chapman, whoso magnificent displays have luthorto. been a social feature of tlieso shows.. 6 Uow era exhibited word JonquilJs, daffodils, or. narcissi, • and hundreds of these .beautiful blooms stood i in-long rowß on- tables down both sides of the .hall, objects ot: great admiration to the visitors. Dr. Pcrrv secured a;bronze medal for:■his fino show-of narcissi, beautiful things in- white, and' Orange,' i lDts who won-a certificate with his exhibition.of, narcissi, 1 also sent a very excellent/.display: The best 'long trumpet daffodil- in' the show was a ; *'Duke of Bedford- exhibted; by Mr. C. E. Buckingham, ?? j?, r * exquisite/'Gloria Munth ' secured -the -of' shotting .'the beat flower of any other: variety. There were some magnificent displays;for .exhibition only, and Mr. 1. Cooper, won a 'certificate with a lone stand, full of flowers, and pot-plants, which held the pLaco of honour in the centre of, the room. This ihcluded narcissi,' daffodils, carnations, violets, azaleas, >and- beautiful. foliage plants. Mr. Poole; received a certificate also tor'his exhibit, which consisted mainly of foliage plants, and included two very fiho orchids. Mr. Harvey made a splendid display ofieinor" anas and xyclamoni, which were immensely admjred. The cinerarias ranged through- many shades, but their beauty. was eclipsed by 'the cyclaraen with .'its splendid white. IJlooms, and smaller flowers of. rich'purple and crimson. There were no crocuses, and few drons,'as-the season- for these'is nearly over; -A it " ps 0 not: yet - appeared, but r \ f° M Qeptions there seemed- to ; be everv sort of flower that could bloom at this,time of year, and the. anemones especially made a brave show. Mr.: W.B.- A'nstis : : sent r an exhibit of flowering _ pot-plants and: rhododendron. l ., and Mr.. Urton Stevens showed a collection of narcissi exceptionally/beautiful' in colourand'size ' Mr. :,Orton Stevens, president of the society, the Hon. J; A.'Hillarto open the , The Minister remarked that this was the first horticultural show he-had'.ever had the honour to open.' Tno'exhibition bore' ample .'testimony to the suitability of the. Hutt J for growing bulbs, for scarcely anywhere 'else it -New'ZoaJand could a finer stewing ; be made.*. He congratuiated the 'ctnamitbso' and', the 'growers v on the success achioved, and h« had much, pleasure m -declaring the show formally open. .
