ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
;. DEATH ON THE ULIMAROA. • An* inquest. was held at tho morguo yesterday, beforo Mr. W. G. Riddell. deputy-coroner, touching the death of Alexander'Todd, a resident of Malvorn, Victoria, who was found dead in bed 011 board tho steamer Ulimaroa. ' Dr. Fyffc, who conducted a post-mortem examination on tho body, stated that ■ deceased was a well-nourished man of about 00 yeart of age. There .wero no signs of external violent or poisoning. Tho cause of death was haerqorrhagio pancreatitis, coupled with ' the fatty condition of the heart. Harold Grcgson, bedroom steward on the s.s. Ulimaroa. said deceased was a saloon passenger travelling from Sydney to Wellington. At 10 o'clock on Tuesday night he appeared to bo in good health, though earlier in the day ho had told witness that lie felt rheumatic gout coming on, and if it got worse he would have to return home. Early yesterday morning witness went into the cabin with a cup of tea and found deceased lying' dead. Deceased was on his way to Canada, and witness believed resided in 'Melbourne. Martin Stewart Ridley, tea merchant, of Christchurch, said that ho met deceased on tho voyage from Sydney to Wellington/and up till 10. or 11 on Tuesday night ho appeared to be in good health. Then ho complained of suffering from rheumatio gout.. Witness stayed with him till about 12.30, when iho was rather ill, but ; did not appear to bo in a dangerous condition. ■ ■ ' ■ Graham M'Donald, quartermaster of the UKmaroa, also gave evidence as to deceased's health and general affairs. Deceased had ona son. over 30 .years of ago. ■ Constable Dempsey also gavo evidence. Tho Coroner returned a verdict in accord, anco with the medical testimony. ; .
