Tie old adage that misfortunes never come singly was, strikingly illustrated 'at Auckland on Saturday afternoon.! Leaving his office in Queen Street at about' 2.30 p.m., a young man witnessed the scene following tho fatal accident to Andrew Jl'Leod, near Fort. Street. Later in the afternoon he .went to Alexandra l'ark, to see the second spell of the Aucklaml-T&ranaki <Rugby football match. On arrival there ha saw the-players gathered round the form of ont of their number, who was eventually carried off the field in'an unconscious condition, suffering from n slight concussion. The day's experiences for this eye-witness of misfortuno wore not yet over. While waiting for a ferry steamer at seven p.m., at tho Ferry Company's Auckland tee, lie received a further thrill by seeing a passenger, ill au> endeavour to hastily depart from the boat,, mips his footing on the wharf's eilgu and disnppeur into tho 'dark waters between, this whui'f and steamer. Tho build of the paddle-steamer, and tho fact that ninny willing hands were outstretched to help, made the work of rescuing the hasty one easy. This was the least discomforting accident of tbq. three, for the victim was apparently littlo tho vorso for his immMsion.—y 1-I^l^
