Maydr'said that a.mistnke' had been made in regard to the lamps,' Origin-' 'ally'.-the' agreement for, the.lighting of -the borough -had: been made with- the old Electric Lighting ..Company. 1 agreed -that all , limps roonired by the'cotincil should :be prayided, na long as thoy were,within reasonaj)le";distance of the.mnins:■ The;agreement had been takon over-by, the City. Council, and tho same conditions therefore remtunedi. Oniono occasion' tho "company had refused to put new in theitunjnel, and the council then asked thit : all, the borough, lights should be turned' off;-."At this tho request was , quickly complied with.' : In- tho:.present instance, the council "should have asked the city, simply to turn out the;.lights, nnd made the demand.that the six ne\>,' lamps be erected where needed. If this had been done the City Council would have been bmind to agree and it might leave tho old lumps or remove them just as it pleased. Thoro was often troublo when • thjngs got into tho hands of. tho solicitor, and this.was,the best way out, of the .difficulty. The Mayor agreed to place the facts before the electrical engineor. A special meeting was held subsequently, at which it <vae resolved-to strike n special rate of one penny and a fifth in the JJ'in connedtioiv with the recently authorised loan of .£27,501) for tho extension of the electric-, train-' -v.'uv from tho cemetery to the foot of tho ■Ma'kara.
