DILATORY TEANSMISsioN ALLEGED.; i ' • (By. Telccrupb.—Socclql OorreeDoDclein.i '■■ ■■ ■■' ' Palmerston North, September U. . At the meeting of the Dannevirke Chamber of Commerce, last night strong comment was made regarding tho .alleged, dilatory transmission of the Suez- mails from■ Auckland..: The Postal-Department had written.-oiplaining that, it was only, when the mail steamer'reached Auckland' too late to • connect.,'irith the, Main Trunk express, that the Hawke's'Bay .portion of the correspondence '.was uelayod. ..;.■.. . To this statement exception .was'taken;, by Mr. Thomas Bain, who 'declared- that the mail was often, delayed when the steamer arrived in Auckland, in .time to connect with tho express. He thought that'the trouble itae that the Danneyirke' mail was sent to, Wanganui before coining on to Hawke's Bay. The train mail-sorting, service was understaffed. '. Mr. Downes contended that the overland mail service from Auckland was now-, in a worse state than , in.former times when tho Onehunga steamer had to wait for , the arrival of.the mail-boat. ■ ; ' ' "
