SCOTT'S ATTACK ON THE SOUTH POLE. STAFF AND EQUIPMENT. MONEY WANTED FOR EARLY START. IBy Teleeraph.-Prosa Aasocltttlon.-Gopyrlirbt.l (Rec. September 14, 9.35 p.m.) London, September 14. Captain Scott, , who is planning a now British expedition to the Antarctic, oxpeots to return to England in 1912. Lieutenant E. Evans, navigating officer of tho two Antarctic relief expeditions, will bo second in command. Many members of the scicntifio staff and crew who went with Captain Scott in tho Discovery in 1001, will accompany him on his present expedition.
Tho four motor sledges, which it is proposed to take, will bo sufficiently long to bridge dangerous crovieos. Largo sums havo already boon promised for the expedition. Captain Scott, in an interview, said that £40,000 would bo tho minimum lequired. i ( Ho added that he was certain that tho overseas Dominions, particularly Australia and New Zealand, would furnish a good suin towards the expedition. They would be well represented on tho staff. Ho mentioned that thero was a prospect of utilising ethergraphs between tho ship and the shore. Much depended, as regards the completeness of the entire equipment of tho expedition, on a liberal and quick response to tho appeai for funds. Captain Scott hopoa to enter the ice at the end of December.
