PONY RACING.

•Sir,—Let mo draw attention to absence of a necessary rule at the pony and galloway raco meetings. The rule is "to have all riding fees •paid at the scales." I havo known of soyeral cases where boys have not received their money for riding last season, and consequently, havo had to run into debt. This stato of affairs should not bo allowed to go on, as it is not fair tff the boys or public. It is to be hoped the' Pony Club will make a move in tho matter, as it is their duty, and it would tend to improve tho racing 100 per cent. I think the club could also reduce the minimum weight from Bst. to 7st.- 71b., so as to givo tho, light boy's a chance. I know of half a dozen lads who could go to. scale at 7st. 71b. with little trouble, and if this rule, was introduced it •would attract' more light boys to tako out licenses. There,. havo been several cases of Jiorscs carrying overweight, sometimes to tho extent of. a stone; when boys who-could ride tho weight have been looking on. This should • not bo allowed,-as it provides an excuse for inconsistent running.' Trusting you will find 'space in vour .valuable paper ..to publish this Jitte'iy and thanking you in anticipation.—l am/'etc.; ' W. J." BYRNE.-' "September 11; . ' ... ';. .•- .;.
