;. : ATTITUDE OP CITY COUNCIL. ■ . .The Reserves Committee:of the City Council , reported at last'evening's meeting that a deputation from the Wellington lawn Tennis Association.had waited on them, asking thecourioil to reconsider the question of the recreation ground at the top;of Pirie Street, adjacent to the Kilbirnie Tunnel, and to allow the association'to use. a'portion for tennis courts, but they-could not recommend the council to depart from the previous decision to reserve the ground as a general recreation Aground for ohildrem -: '■ ' . : The committee further recommended that,.as they '.weTe-advised that the council had mo legal' power .to grant leases of lands within the boundaries of tho Botanical Gardens for eports or recreation grounds, .the application Kelburne lawn-Tennis Club for a lease of the old fort site for tennis purposes should not.be granted.. ■•■'"• ""■ . . ■.■■■■ Both recommendations were .approved. ..
