BROUGHAM-HILL CLUB. The tenth annual meeting of Brougham Hill Tennis Club was Held lust ovening, in' the Kent Terrace . Churchroom, and, was attended by seventeen members. Mr. G. A. Hurley was chairman. . ' . . The committee's report (published on Thursday last) was adopted.- • The election 'of officers resulted as follows;— President Mr; .T G. W. Aitlccn (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs. G. N. Goldioi J. Hunter, G. Winder, and C. A. Lawrence (re-elected); hon. auditor,.Mr.. W...Jack (re-elected); ra'anngc'ment committee; Messrs. 0. 1\ Quinnell,.]). M. Koan, and J. O'Leary (re-elected), W. H.Long, and S. Roberts; hon. treasurer, Mr. J. A. B. Howo. (re-elected). '~'.-;■■.■..: It was agreed to recommend that, iii the event of.tho club winding-up-at the end-of the coming season through lack of .courts, new members should have a refund-of ■ portion of their entrance fees;. in the. case of the men, 13s. 6d.,-and in the caso of the ladies, ss. Gdi The 'present nomination fees ore: .men, one guinea; ladies,. 10s. Gd. - _ A resolution was carried recommending the committee to enter at least one team for each event. -It was explained thatxdifficulty had occurred. last season only when. teams were required to-go across the harbour.. In. some instances .the whole.* team "pulled put." '.' After protracted discussion, the meeting issued an. instruction to the delegates that they should oppose any movement on the part of tho iassociation to' acquire the twelve courts at Day's Bay, on which to piny matches during (he coming season.' This resolution mas carried' by nine votes ,tp eight. Its opponents urged that Day's Bay was the only place about Wellington where tennis players could have the advantages' of grass, courts. : The majority, con-, tended, ;on. the other hand, thnt considerable 1 inconvenience was occassibned to tennis players who wero desirous of crossing the harbour, and, as one. member put it, "when: one does-get there one has to be able to piny to got' n game.". An argument submitted in favour of the resolution was ..that,' if other, clubs took the same attitude, tho association might bo induced to 'approach the : City/ Council with the request to provide additional tennis courts near' tb" cifi- -■ On".of Hie numerous amendments proposed was that the delegates favour the nciiciit.iuon of the Uay.'s* Bay courts, if ..the association could-obtain them from the -I'erry Com-, pany at a-lewer rental- than that paid last season.
