ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
DROWNED. (By ■ .Telegraph—Press Association.) i Cisborne, September 6. Mr. M'Kenzie,owner of . a butcher's shop at the Otoko railway works, Was drowned this afternoon. The driver of a cart refused to cross the stream opposite the slaughterhouse, and Mr. M'Kenzie .said ho would drive himself. Ho attempted to do so, and horse, cart, and driver were swept away.. He has not since been seen. ' A man named Robertson has been drowned at Gold Creek.' A later'message states that his full name was Thomas Robinson, aged 18, and that he .was a stranger to the district. . Ho was crossing Gold Creek Head railway works, to get a cow, when his horso stumbled and fell. Ho was washed down ..the creek. Tho body has not been recovered. A YOUNG MAN'S DEATH. ; N H okitika, September G.' A young man named John Rigaji was found with a bullet wound through the roof of his mouth in a claipi at Ross yesterday. A Winchester riflo was at his side. He had been absent Bince Friday, but was thought to h'avo gone north.' No causo is assigned for the apparent death by suicide. V' . AN OLD AGE PENSIONER. . Invercargill, September 6. While out walking on Sunday ; evening an old age pensioner named William Symes dropped -dead at Forest Hill. Heart disease wias tho cause of death. ' 1 THROWN FROM HIS HORSE. Duncdin, September 6. Coh'n M'Lcan, aged 32, a single mim, was thrown from his horse at Goodwood, near Waikouaiti, and W'as pickdd up unconscious. Ho died two hours afterwards, his skull being badly fractured. SUDDEN DEATH. ' An inquest was held at the morgue yesterday, afternoon, ' boforo Dr. 'A. M'Arthur, Coroner, touching the death of William. Higginson, who died suddenly . yesterday morning. From the. evidence, it appeared that deceased , had been stopping at a boardinghouse in Dixon Street, , and for tho last five weeks had complained of being unwell. ' Yesterday, morning,. John' White, who shared tho bedroom.with him, awokq to find him groaning as if in pain. White endeavoured to. help : him, and- then sent for the proprietor of the'house, John- Weldon. Weldon immediately. 6ent for Dr.. Pigeon,> who; came and. pronounced deceased to be' suffering from pneumonia. The doctor gave, deceaised some medicine for temporary relief,, and ordered his removal to. the. Hospital; but before this could be elfected deceased expired.
