Hogben,' seconded by Mr. M.H. Oram, supported the other side! Kleven 'members spoke on. the :motion, both patriots receiving ■a.due.share'.pf.support. The movers contended i that.-Washington's exploits as a soldier andhis stajesnianship^intime of peace showed his preeminent'greatness as a : patriot. [ He : was a' man' of action and a thinker with 'visions. Garibaldi, they said, was a ■ head. ■ long'firebrand, but Cavour, the tkinkor, .was .really', prime .mover ■in ■■. the . great Italian drama. An ..endeavour was made to discredit Garibaldi's when it was urged that he was anxious only for action, and cared not in'-what country, .for. .which - sido he ■fought: 'The,bpposers\irisisted 'that'.the ••onus' , .'prpbandi lay on'.the opposite sido.though' they were confident'enough •to take the offensive.
