HARRIERS.
: , TEN-MILE HANDICAP. Anew departure was made by. the "Wellington Harriers on Saturday, when fifteeh,pf their number competed in a : -handicftp race over a ten-mile Course 1 at Lower. Hutt.-Previously, the longest distance race! ha3-been , over five milfis, but the result of Saturday's: race should be encouraging to the • advocates 'of...the extension of the distances .for club races. Handicaps for the race- were declared as follow :-F. Wilton'and W. B. Bennett, scratch; F. Hodson and W. Press, linin.; C. Eowberry, 2min.;iß. W. Curry, 3niin.; H. A. Lamb, 31 min.i K. E. Bust, fenin.; C. Lamberg, ; GJ min.; E. S.Forne and P. Wilton, 71in.;-G. ■Wbincop, Bmin.; W. White, lOmin.; A. P. White and W.' Power, Umin. The distance included .two laps of the Hntt Park Racecourse, and a big stretch- of country outside, which had to be covered twice. For tho most part, the going was Mvampy as n result of the heavy rain which had fallen during the morning, and this state of affairs militated considerably against the-chances of the. back markers- A. P. White led from the-bepning, and was never' displaced, nnd, although hiraging out signals s of distress towards the nnisli, he was able to secure first place with three minutes j(f-his- handicap still unused. _U Lamberg maintained a steady paco all the way, and'caught all those in front, .with the exception of White, E.-.S. Torne, finished third half a minute behind ,Lamberg, nnd was; fol-' lowed home' by W. Wlute, P. Wilton E. Bust, and W «Press. Bennett made fastest .time, but was only able to gain ninth place.
