Waitchiuan.—The. eastern .face lias been ad-I vanced a' total of 26 feet from :the starting point. Gold continues to Been in the stone when .broken. Should the reef continue to open up well there will be a ;very large block available for stoping, as the reef is intact'to the eastern boundary, and about 400/ feet, to- the surface. The country rock in the/.vicinity of the'leader resembles that in the upper levels, .which carried rich • ore bodies./. The country penetrated is still' of -a firm nature. 1 ho. l level ias been extended a total distance of I 166 ft. A ■ splendid t class of ' brown sandstone country' is still 'being penetrated. A leader about 2m. in thickness was met with, which shows colours of gold by the dish. During the past two. weeks two men have been engaged prospecting the Triumph section of- the mine. A.trench has been put across, the.hill south of tho Triumph old workings. On August 17 'a nice-looking reef about 2ft. 6in. in thickness was located. - The hangingwall portion of the reef shows splendid.-looking mineral. A sample of the stone. is ' being assayed. Kuranui—ln the Kuranui mine,• Thames, tho Blythe reef has been driven on for another 26ft., and the 6in. leader.-haß been stripped for another 7ft.,. and broken down, the ore being, stacked'at the mouth of the drive. In the south drive the loader, which has been driven on for sft., is about 15in. wide, and presents a solid compact body. ... ~ 11

New Waitaia.—ln the rise from No. 5 level in tlio New TVaitaia mine the reef has steadily improved in-value, and is yielding high-grade ore. The last portion broken showed gold very evenly distributed throughout,, in addition to the few pounds selected. Tho reef is from Ift to 2Et. wide, encased in good country, and gives every promise of proving a riehcr block than the one above. " Tho rise from tho intermediate lovol is now connected with tho No. 4 level holing through 64ft. south of tho point where' a few > feet of sinking was done on the rich ore first located, ; Gold has been seen within a low feet of the floor of No. 4 level, and whero connected, although not • much visible gold' is to be. seen, a first-rate dish'prospect ii obtainable. As soon as tho mullock, is trucked out of the passes stoping will be commenccd on this block. . In the south drive at No. 5 level a flinty formation is crossing the face, and until this is penetrated it is impossible to determine what' effect it will have upon the ' ore body. The battery should bo in going order in about two weeks' time. ' . •
