HASTINGS NOTES.
(By ' Telcsraph-Speclal Correspondent.) i Hastings, August 24 The monthly meeting of the Hastings School Committee was held last night, Mr G F Roach presiding The headmaster's report showed that the average attendance was 695, and the highest attendance on any one day was (725 Tho complimentary ball given last night to the Poverty Bay football representatives was a great success, over one ,hundred couples being present The visitors were welcomed by Mr G F Roach (president of the Hastings Sub-Union) Mr Lane, donor of the Lane Shield, also spoke a few words of welcome, and explained the conditions of competition for the shield ' The Poverty Bay Rugby representatives played Hastings to-day, the result being — bastings, 11 points, Poverty Bay, 6 Exccllont onwies have been received for tho various sections at the forthcoming mdustnal exhibition Art heads the list with 162 entries, needlework 135, elocution. 83, ind cookery 78 The total number of entries is 688
