PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL. ■» - An ordinary meeting of the Petone Borough Council was held - hist evening, and attended by Councillors J. J. M'Ewan (Mayorft Short, Harding, Southgate, Colquhouu, Piper, Young, List, Jones, and Truemau, A circular from Messrs, E. W. Wills and Co., relative to a discovery for solving the problem of the sanitary service where houses are not conneoted with the sewage system, was described by tho Maypr as a 1 "very interesting" circular, and was handed round to tho councillors for perusal. An outbreak of diphtheria at Korokoro caused Councillor Piper to pass some .severe comments upon tile alleged insanitary state of the Korokoro Schopl. Ho moved that the Education Board bo given 21 hours' notice to put the place intp a sanitary condition, Rome councillors considered 21 hours very short nqtice, but Couucjjjor Short insisted .that the matter was so urgent that no delay should be tolerated. The niolioir was can led unanimously. Councillors were somewhat startled by U» reading of a lettvi from u inlander u.uiicd Mr, Percy, offering to lend the council, loans nf money up to two millions. After some humprous remarks, tl)B letter was received. A motion by Counoillpr J'ippr that certain meetings of the committee should be open to the press was rejected. .
