By using a duplicate key, ten smaitlydressod men entered Mappm and Webb's warehouse, Cheapside, on Sunday afternoon, without attracting suspicion. Onco inside, they produced a jemmy, and assaulted the watehman with the object of preventing his raising an alarm. Meanwhile, others ransaoked the premises. The watchman, though ho had Tcceivcd serious wounds on the head, managed to crawl to the entrance of the premises and shout "Police " The alarm succeeded, and five of the thiovos, observing the fact, made good their escape The five others, while cmeiging with several thousand pounds' worth of'jewellery and plate, were arrested They had in their pockets masks and gloves, the latter being intended to conceal their finger-prints and thus avoid identification 1 Goods to tho value ,of £7000 wore found packed in tho premises ready for removal Tho capture, of the five men is regarded as of considerable impoitance.
