Georgetti, of Manga- ' 'weka, will stand as ail Independent Liberal, and Mr. Reardon,. well-known in Labour ciroles in, Wellington, as a nominee of the Labour party. The rumour ro Mr. Smith's 1 withdrawal is incorrect. He is a warm . fav'ourito for'tha contest at this end of the electorate which, by the way, is the most "thickly populated. ] It is expected that Mr. ' Smith and Mr. Hockley will contest tha second ballot. ' • . Mr. R. E. Hornblow is.standing as a Liberal and Labour candidate for Rangitikei —not "Liberal Independent Labour, as , erroneously announced yesterday. It is expected that tho vacancy of 'the ■ Rangitikei soat will,bo formally notified in tho Gazetto of Thursday next. Tho notification by Gazetto is nocossary befoio the writ can bo issued for the by-election.
