Christohurch, August 19. ;At the Supreme .Court to-day, Patrick Dalton and James; Arthur were charged with conspiracy to defraud Henry Uru. The indictment, alleged -that',the- offence was con)mitfced iii a railway carriage travelling he-' tween Belfast and'Christchurch, on May 24, Urn being defrauded by tho three-card trick. Dalton was sentenced to nine mouths' imprisonment, and' Arthur was ordered to stand down pending inquiries. ■ Frederick Marshall was indicted that o.n May 9, 1908, being then a servant of the TJnit-ed Farmers', Coal Company, Ltd., he stole £2 4s. of the moneys of the. company. There was a second count, alleging that : on Jiine 26, 1008, at, Ashburton, accused stole, tho sum of £GO, belonging to the company. Tho trial was not concluded when the Court rose for the day. : . • ;'•■.' Christohurch, August 20. Aii' the. Supremo Court to-day, Frederick Marshall, cx-mahaging director of the, United Farmers' Coal Company, was convicted of ombezzlemcnt, and sentenced to twelve 'months' imprisonment. . ■' ' ; ■ Frederick William Dennett and George Nottingham were acquitted on a charge of. assault and robbery: On a charge of burglaTy, to which they pleaded guilty, accused werei'sentenced to three years' imprisonment) eachboing declared an habitual offender.'
