In connection with tbe decp-sca harbour proposal, the board docided on a short, as opposed to a long, wharf; scheme, and pro- , ceed at once to widen tho existing wharves to 72 foot, giving accommodation for fivo lines of rails. It i\ae also decided to dredge tho basin to a depth of 33 feet at low water. A now dredge is now being constiucted in England, and tho harbour works should! bo bo far i advanced as to admit Homo liners within two years. NAPIER HARBOUR. GLASGOW WHARF ALMOST READY. Napier, August 20. Whilst the enlargement of tShe Glasgo* i Wharf has been in progress passenger stosimorsof t'ho Union and Huddart-Parkor lines have anchored in tho breakwater har- , bour, and have been tendered for passengers and cargo Tho wharf is npw almost ready for use again. The Victoria was to-day berthed at the breakwater wharf, and it 18 ' anticipated that tho spring piling at tfco Glasgow Wharf will be completed in time te allow tho Mourn noit Friday and subEOquent steamers to berth there. ' • Nelson, August 20. 5 An unemployed man named John Judge ' went to the Nelson Labour Bureau yeator- " day afternoon and asked for work, \Ho was * told there was none available, whereupon . ho said he wanted a night's food and lodg- ■ ing. He had no money, and would get what ) he wanted by breaking a glass door, so tho i officials had better send for the police at once. Judge then proceeded to put his fist through'the door, breaking the glass. He waa arrested and got a night's lodging. Thia morning ho was fined £1, and 13s. Cα. cost of tho glass. There is a possibility of a new theatre being erected , oft I 'the site of the Strand Arcade destroyed by Monday night's fire. At present tho matter has gone no further than a the part of tho syndicate that a theatre 'ehould bo i built, and that they should undertake to lease the samo for a certain number of years.
