The election of qfhoers for the year resulted as follow — Mr E Newman, Ml 3 ,, patronj Dr. Adams, president; twelve, viee-prefiidpntg, and an equal number of committcemen woro also elocted. Mr F D, WJnbley was leappointed secretary, and Mr E Hcaley treasurer It was deoided to hold tho annual epoits on the King's Birthday, as formerly, and, )f possible, an extra day's sport on tho ocoasion of the proposed aquptic events Mr Fowler offered a new bicycle for a road race, to start and finish at the paik where tho sports will bo hold. It is expected that the present will be 3 record yeai for events and attendance. Mr Mcssena, who put up a stake of £200 for a sculling contest on the Manawatu betjweon W'helch and.Day, has now withdrawn, and is promoting a sculling handicap for £200 "Dick" Arnst, Fogwell, and others have visited the Long Reach—the proposed course on tho Manawatu—and have expressed tho opinion that it is the finest course in Australasia Arnst intimated his intention qf competing, and was very enthusiastic over tho proposal T!)cy had similar handicaps in Austiaha, he eaid, but nono had ever been so large as this one, and ie predicted that it would bo one of the finest sculling ovents ever seen in Ausralasia He had received word that at least five oarsmen would cross tho water in mrsuit of the prize. They had. been looking orward to the Wanganui raoo, and now this better inducement would lure them to ]Toxon. He said that besides himself, ho k)iew that Wobb. Fogwell, "Jack" Arnst, Whelch, and other New Zealanders would be starters. The event would be rowed in heats—thiee or four scullers to tho heat—and it would provide far more interesting sport than a jnatch between two men 'Mr Messena has also received a challenge from Fogwell to ow Wheloh on tho Manawatu, and has -olegraphetl to tho latter If he is willing to accept the, challenge, Mr, Messena will immediately put up a deposit, and the match, will bo arranged parly in the new year.
