Attention was. called . at .the .Auckland Education Board's meeting this morning to a paragraph in the last cadet orders issued from .Wellington; stating that the Minister for Education had approved the principle of tlio encouragement of miniature rifle' ranges throughout the Dominion. Mr. G. J. Parr (the chairman) said that those who had read Homo publications ■ wcro aware .that it was impossible to' say what was going to happen, and it Was as well to be prepared for all eventualities. In tho opinion it was most important that ■ tho youth of the colony should learn to. handle a rifle; and hero was a splendid chance, If wo had in the Dominion 100,000. young men under arms, ,a foreign Power would think twice- before interfering with ÜB. . Wo should encourago a spirit ot preparation for dp-, fence,.'not'aggressively; but we should train our young men to ride, and shoot, so that we might' have something to depend, upon in time of danger. ■
