RANGITIKEI SEAT.
THE CANDIDATES,
(By Teleßraph-Bpocial CorreepondonU Wanganui, August 19. It isstat'ed that the following will ba candidates for the Itangitikei seat, vacant through Mr. Remington's death:—Messrs. George Hutchison, W. Meldrum, R. Smith, A. C. Mannington, 1?. Hockley, H. Canton, and A. Joblin. •
Mr.: Meldruin is a solicitor practising: at Hunterville.
Mr. Smith, who will have heavy support from the sawmillitig interests, and also from many of the fanning community around Taihape, opposed Mr. Remington at the last general election, and wm defoated by only 137 votes.
Mr. Hutchisoh is well known on account of his former Parliamentary career, and will no doubt make a big bid for the seat. The indications are that the fight will be between Messrs. Hutchison, Smith, and Meldrum.- / , ■ . ■ Asltcd if ho intended to bo a candidate for the Raiigitikei seat, Mr. C. E.
