THE BOY AS HOUSEMAID.

Not that his sportive character unfits him for. eiiployment to his nature; he takes Kindly to scouting, to the advantage alike of himself and his country', though "ho does not advance eagerly to the mastery of : grammar and inathomatics. ■ The question now-.agitating some.feminine- minds sorely harassed by the servant problem is whether he could bo so domesticated, under a system of blended coaxing and command, as to fulfil the duties ,of a housemaid faithfully and consists Vntly.'-Those duties aro varied rather, than ■monotonous, .but unfortunately they g'ular. and have to'be performed indoors. One lady has-publicly declared that she obtained from an agency a boy who developed into an almost, faultless '.'mother s help. : The arts, of skilful management being, applied to him, he was civil, clean, intelligent, and always willing. Not only-w, but ho was "invariably quick." No errand-delaying marbles or tops for him. Thus rising superior to natural foibles he was, of .course, "more than tho equal of the average female servant." Butane fears that this strangely adaptable youngster must bo classed as a freak of Nature. The normal boy, in "buttons" or out of them,, is certain to "break out" sooner or later.
