The cinephone continues to be a great attraction at the - Theatre Royal, and it is backcu up by an excellent display of kinoinatograph pictures. - A/nong tho best of the present series are: —"Boulter's Lock on Ascot .Sunday," "Tho Two Sergeants," "Slaking Paper Pulp," and "A Simple Story.". The pictures wili be shown again to-iiigkt. HIS MAJESTY'S. During tho interval nt His Majesty's Theatre last evening, tho ballot in connection with the Poneko Football Club's gymnasium art union was. decided. The winning numbers weroFirst prize, 23ii; second, 123; third, 731; fourth, 12?; fifth, 4203; and sixth, 2024. Included in tho change of programme to-night ivill ba; two Pathe art studies, namely, "A Street Waif," a dramatic comedy by Abel Cary, which is described as ono of tho beet films that have ever been placed upon tho market. The acting 'of Mademoiselle Mistinguett asthe"Waif' and M. Priuoe being most realistic. The other pictures include." Buses," by Maurice Hennequin, which is said to bo. decidedly captivating and very carefully aoted; "The Terrible Brazilian," a comedy of a high order;. "Colombo and its Environs," a magnificent series of curious Oriental pictures, showing all kinds' of vehicles harnessed to buffaloes, open-air concerts; and its curious trades and professions. • "JANE." At the Opera House to-night, tho Mountebank Dramatic Club will open its season in the comedy " Jane." Everything possible has been done to make the performance a decided success.' It now only rests with the public to attend in large .numbers and help to swell the procoeds, which, are -to- bo devoted to tho funds of-the" Navy "League; and. the Victoria Coliego extension scheme. Concession tickets have been granted to tho members of the Navy League, and those children who have not yet obtained their tickets may do so on applying at Messrs. G. 5. Hill nnd Co., Lambton Quay (opposite Kelburne Tram). Tho box plan is' tilling rapidly, and intending patrons are advised to book their seats as early as possible, and they may be assured of a splendid cntertaiiitnent.
. THE NELLIE STEWART SEASON. ' The box plans, for the Nellie Steivart season, which commences on Saturday night next, will be placed on viow at 8 o'clock this morning, aud, judging-by the numerous inquiries that have already been made at the Dresden, there is going to be a largo demand formats. The opening production, which is to be staged for six representations, will bo David Belasco's romantic comedy costume drama, " Sweet Kitty Bellairs," which will present Nellie Stewart in flier latest success. Saturday week, "Sweet '■ Nell-of Old Drury" is. to be revived for four performances, and the last three nights will witness: Miss Stewart for the first time in a Shakespearean role,;as those nights are to.be ■■devoted to a production of "As You Liko It," On the day of her Melbourne "first night," as-Jliss Stewart was leaving the Prin■cess Theatre, after attending, a filial rohearsal :of "Kitty Belairs," sh6 . was surprised (although only midday) to find that already there were, about 200 people waiting for the gallery doors to ?i>en (every ■ other . portion of the theatre having-been booked up). 1 Miss Stewart immediately ordered from a neighbouring caterer sufficient afternoon,tea for the lot, and the galleryites, ,in order to show their, appreciation of her thoughtful aot, got up a sub-' soription amongst themselves and purchased their favourite a floral design in the form of a boomerang, with the inscription "To Our Nellie." The scenery, mounting, and dressing of "Sweet ICitty Beliairs" it is said, is a speciaj feature of .'the production.
MASQUERADE POSTER CARNIVAL. . The attendance at the Skating Rink continues satisfactory, yesterday being no exception 10. the rule.-. To-night the Fanoy Dress and Poster. Carnival eventuates, and, judging by the great interest being taken, a reoordenrnival should : result. . The management, state that .tho entries surpass all expectations, some of them in particular being decidedly clever.' The booking is very heavy, and those desirous of a good 6eat are ' advised to be early.
