The representative hockey match between Wellington and Canterbury was played at Sydenham Park this afternoon, in tho presence of about 2000 spectators. Tho ground was in oxccilent order, and tho g.ireo was very fast and 'cvon throughout, although Wellington had , poiihaps' the. bettor of tho game in tho second 'spell. Tho teams were; as follow :— ■Wellington, (yellow and black): Goalkeeper,.. Dwyer;'■' backs, Kibblowhito and Parton;.halves. Cliristie, King, and Dawson; forwnrde. -Loaflor, Organ (Captain), Beere, DaVics,'and Smyths. ' ' - ■. Canterbury (red and black):. Goalkeeper, Boljamy; backs, Campbell and Ford-; halves, Dulfiold, Oram, and Thrpp.; forwards, ,R. Rftnkin, Smith, Hulbert '(captain),, Jacobs, and ■■Patrick. . • . ■ ' '. Canterbury won the toss, and defended tho southorn goal, and the snclh were of thirtyfivo minut-et' duration. From the. "bully-off Wellington obtained possession, Smytho centring, but the ball was, returned well to tho Yellows' twenty-five by ■ Oram; and Wellington were shortly afterwards penalised for offside play. From a free-hit, the ball was taken into the Wellington circle,; but Kibblewhito saved nicely, the. ball , being returned again by ■ Ford. After pretty play in the Wellington circle, where- an almost certain shot was saved by Kibblewhite, Can terbury again returned to the attack, Hulbert having a shot'which went wide. Sniythe was then noticeable for a good.dribble, but ho lost the ball. King shot out to Loader, but Throp, who was playing a fine game, beat hw opponent. Shortly, after this. Organ - was penalised for a'.knock-oh, but Camnbcll, when taking tho free-hit, found tho circle. Rankin centred, but Kibblewhito saved neatly, and returned the. ballto mid-field. • Even' play n<iw followed until the ball was taken into tho Yellows' circle, when Patrick had a shot.-which was;'well saved by Dwyer. Hulbert rushed in} however, and found the net .nicely. : . . . . Canterbury ...' ... .-...' lgoal. : Wellington ... '■ ... ...- nil. . ''.Bullying-off" again, Canterbury set up an .attack,-but were penalised' lor 'off-side play.' From the' free-hit, Bcere : obtained possession of the ball, but, after a / good dribbte, failed to pass, and finally Idst it. Organ, , following up, had a shot which was well stopped by Bellamy, Throp eventually finding tho-lino about midway up tho field. From tho 'throw-in, Ford hit tho ball well up the field, and Smith, centring nicely to Hulbert, tho latter had a tussle with Parton, who conceded, a corner, from which Hulbert managed to register his second score. On starting again, Throp was noticed for sorrio good play, but Patrick failed to field a good pass, and tho ball was returned by Kibblewhite. ..Canterbury, however, returned,,to the attack, Sifljth having a shot which was. well'stopped by Dwyer. Wellington now set , up an attack, but Campbell saved again and'again; -Smytho was then penalised for obstruction, and play was shifted, to; the right wing, whpn Loader was penalised for using thr wrong sido of his stick,.and Ford, rushing up well, put the ball in'the Wellington circle, but Kibblewhite returned it. Wellington now 'kept, up a fairly .consistent-attack/in'which King'and Christio were "noticeable, the former hitting W Beere, who had a "shot whioli was well saved by Bellamy.. The Wellington forwards .'seemed.rather .-slower'in tun circle than their opponents, and,'Campbell managed to get the ball and pass to Smith, who hit it .the full length of tho field. Otago, was .played to-day, the' weather being fine and the ground in capital order. The game resulted in a win for the visitors by 5 goals to nil. In the early stages of the game , Otago held a slight advantage; but, after that, Canterbury asserted a superiority, and played a .winning game for the rest of tho time. The success, of the visitors was largely duo to the excellent play of their forwards.'Goals were scored by Misses Rennie, Mason, M. -Pea-roe, and P. Rhodes (2). In tho local senior ladies' fixtures, Victoria Collego defeated Petono by 2 goals to nil. The former are now leading for tho championship. ■''■■■ ■ St. John's beat Wellington by 3 goals tol.
