The :bal'l held last night in the Town Hall , by ""the' \Velhngton Naval Artillery Volunteers was well attended,' and pioved a'great success. Once again the .hall was elaborately decorated, but the colours that hung like the roof of a tentifrom the central chandelier were not to, be j called lively in effect, for the blue was so'dark as to appear but one degree removed 'from''black, and'the brilliant colours of the flags, hung'round the fiont'of the gallery with the green'and gold below, were all required to give the . scene a sufficiently 'festive appearance. Tho stage was arranged with quantities of, palms, among 'which two largo guns tried 'unsuccessfully to hide themselves. The alcoves under ,the gallery were, carpeted-and,,fur-nished 'luxuriously, but tbere 'were few people sitting out, as the floor appealed to tempt nearly everyone, and tho music was excellent. 'Quite a number of the men wei« in and navy bluo, or darl blue cloth and gold braid-~and ,two or three scarlet 1 military uniforms stood out vividly among-the more sombro colours. Supper wa's served in the Concert Hall, where tho decorations'were bright and pretty, and the three long tables placed down the room were very gay with scarlet, 'white, and blue, anei with palms, each palm, spunging from 't crimson or navy blue draping.
