A TENDERS BOARD.
NEW GOVERNMENT DEPARTURE. Cnlrinot hai; decided to appoint a Tenders Hoard to recoivo and opon all tenders invited for public workn. The board will consider the tenders, and inrfltc recommendations to Cabinet as to acceptance. 'The'board will consist of the Minister" for Public Works (tho Hon, R, M'Kenzic), tho tJmler-Secrotary -for Public Works (Mr. H. i. 71. Blow), tho Engineer-iii-Chief (Mr. It. W. ■ Holmca), General Manager for Railways (Mr, T. Ronayno), and the Government Architect (Mr. John Campbell). Three members of the board, including a Minister,-will form a mnruni, and any other Minister may act for tlio Minister for public Worka. The, firn£ meeting of tho board will be llcbl as soon as possible after the return of the Hon, It. M'Kenssio front the south. Unrlfjr the present system, Government tenders receivable _at, Wellington May be opened by the district engineer in conjunction with another suitable person appointed "by tho Minister for Public Works. Tenders receivable at district, offices are opened by a Bpccially-appointed officer, and in either case report-is made to the Minister, The how systom follows almost exactly the New South Wales procedure, which provides for a Tenders Board with a Minister at ita head. It is suggested that it will be more satisfactory to, tenderers to know that tenders aro only onened by an established board of a, substantial character.
