MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was helcT last evening, and was attended by the Mayor, Mr; C.' J. Crawford, and Councillors' Peterson, Bell, Brodie, M'Leod, and M'Lelland. ■ ' ' ,' .' ' Conncillor Muir, who was elected to a 6eat on the conncir last' Tuesday, was wolebmed by.the Mayor. ■ ' . ; The City' Electrical, Engineer (Mr. Stuart Richardson) wrote that wandering cattle which trespassed on the tramway linos' at night were a. menace to the service, and were liable to , cause accidents. The council decided to put the matter in the ranger' 6 hands, and, to instruct him to act. The Mayor remarked on the leniency of the Court in cattle-wandering cases.'' ■.',■"".''.'■■'' ' A request waa received from Mr. W. Watson that part of Stafford Street near his residence should be improved,, and the council' gave instructions that the road should be.regraded and metalled. The engineer reported that the work would cost-iE6S. ' . '■ The Controller and Auditor-General'informed the council that. he. had certified, to. the bal-ance-sheet of the council for-the year ended March 31, 1909, subject to certain amendments being effected. One of these had to-do.with a sum of ".£1695, which had been'taken j out- of loan money to reduce the overdraft..'on the district fund account. The, Mayor stated that the amount, was nearly all.repaid. "; . The engineer , estimated .that the cost of regrading and metalling the Old Farm Eoad would be The council - dcided to\ make an inspection, of the road. '■ Councillors'agreed' that a; gtKjd deal of the cutting up of borough roads would be avoided if a by r taw we're' passed requiring that the tyres of cart wheels should bo of greater width than'at,present. Councillor Brodie: moved, and it was agreed, that a report on the matter should be obtained from • the- engineer. : The bank-bojk showed a debit balance of £599 19s. Ud.; ; accounts amounting to .£3lB were passed, for payment.. ,' '
