(By Tcioeraph-Speelal Correspondent.) Hastings,.August 5. A euchre tournament and a dance, under the auspices of the Hastings Fire Police and Salvage Corps, were held last night. In the euchre tournament, Mr. E. Garuett won the gentlemen's prize, anil Mrs. Alaggin the ladies'. r>. A large gathering of Natives at Omahu was addressed by the Hon. A. T. Ngata today on Native questions and matters connected with the Hun. Air.'Carroll's scheme relating to the development of the Maori race. In response- to a-request for a match from Dannevirke, the Hawko's Bay Hockey Association ', has suggested Saturday next as a suitable date. The weekly meeting of the Hastings Rugby Sub-Union was held this week, Mr. G. F. Boach presiding. It was decided to play all matches early on Saturday next, except the Ravers and Ahurin fixture, , which will begin at 3 p.m. It was also decided .to entertain, the Poverty Bay team on Monday, August 23, the proceeds to be devoted to the accident fund. The team to play against Poverty Bay will not be picked till after . Saturday. _ A committee meeting of the local Boxing Association was held on Tuesday night, Mr. S. F. Haszard presiding. A letter was received from.Cole (Palmerston North), asking for a match against Dawson. Mr. Jameson, on behalf of "Tommy" Burns, asked the association for a permit for Burns to hold a contest. This was granted. It was decided to arrange a professional contest between Young (Napier) and Crawford (Hastings) ori the second night of the championship events. ' It was also- decided to p/>stpone the championship meeting for one week, as an industrial exhibition is being held on. September 1 and 2. The treasurer reported a credit balance.of £160, and the chairman congratulated the committee, stating this was an unprecedented position (as compared with kindred clubs) for the first year of thoir own club's existence:
