BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
THE NELSON SYSTEM. . ' (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, August 4. A deputation from • the Ministers' Association waited on'the Education Board today, asking for'half, an .hour per week'to be devoted to .'.Bible-teaching. ,<.in .< schools. They declared that they could not make any headway attending after school hours. They did not want • denominational instruction, and suggested the'adoption of the Nelson system. '.'.-, The chairman of the board 'said the .'Education Act distinctly set out secular subject's as v those on which instruction was to be imparted; and five hours daily was necessary for secular syllabus. Mr. Bagnall proposed that an extra quarterrhour.per day be added to the school time. The proposal wns lost, and it was decided to reply, expressing regret that the syllabus would not permit curtailing of the secular school work, sympathising with the work of the association, and promising to do all that could bo done to forward tlio wishes of the deputation.
