Ministers of.the Crown who will bo out of town this morning are: the Acting-Prime Minister (Hon. J. Carroll), who will return .from Taumarunui this afternoon; the Hon. R. M'Kor.Bie, who is in Otngo; and the Hon. A. T. Ngata, who is at Omahu. Mr. R: Tait, Acting-Town Clerk, is at present laid up'with an attack of influenza. Mr. W. J. B. Trewiu, Mayor of Feilding, is at present in Wellington. "■ The Town Clerk, Mr. J. R:. Palmer, who has been indisposed for,the past week, was able to attond to hiß official duties .yesterday. Captain M'Arthur, of the Maoriland Steam Ship Company, returned from a brief visit to Sydney by the Manuka yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. John Eirkoaldie arrived back from a trip to Australia by the Manuka* yesterday. Mr. W. Bowron, of Christchurch, is among the passengers by tho'Corinthic, whieli arrives from London next Tuesday. Mr. H. S. Moss, secretary of the Wairarapa A. and P. Society, is returning to Now Zealand by the Corinthio, duo here nest Tuesday. The Hon. 6. Fowlds leaves to-morrow for Napier, where he will open Nurses' Homo and Ward for Incurable Cases at the hospital. The Hon. A. T. Ngata went to Hastings yesterday, en route for Omahu, whero ho will confer with the Natives with reference to tho new proposals affecting Native lands, etc. Mr. W. Adams, chief passenger clerk in the local office of tie Union Steam Ship Co., has returned from a trip to Sydney. Ho was accompanied by his wife. Mr. F. E. Baumc, M.P., and Mrs. Baume roturned from a visit to Sydney and Melbourne yesterday. They leave for Auckland to-day. The Messrs. Fuller have been advised by cablo of the death of Mr. Will. Stevens,, a one-time popular comedian, who toured New Zoaland on several occasions under the Fuller management. Captain Anderson, marine superintendent for the Union Steam Ship Co. at Wellington, lias been appointed acting-marine superintendent at Sydney, and will take up his new duties in tho course of the present month. Captain Stott, for some time in charge of the j Mooraki, has boon appointed acting-superiu-I toudent at Wellington.
The Acting-Prime Minister (Mr. J. Carroll), who has boon addressing meetings in tho Waikato district in regard to the proposed alterations in the Native land policy, will return to town 'thin afternoon. Our Napier correspondent states that the Rev. J. W. Hay ward, of Port Ahuriri Presbyterian Church, has decided to accept a oal 1 tendered to him by tho Presbyterian Church at Aiiaroa, Canterbury. Mr. J. C. Watson, M.H.R., the ex-loader of tho Fedora! Labour Party, who has been on a visit to South Africa in connection with gold-mining .ventures, is expected back in Melbourne in about a fortnight's time. ■■■ Under tho will of the' late Mr. James Harry, St. Andrew's Sunday School, Wellington Terrace, has received £100 as an endowment fund for investment, tho interest to be devoted annually to the upkeep of tho pohaol library. ■ The Hon. T. Mackenzie (Minister for. Agriculture), who intended to visit theMouma-' haki Experiment Farm to-morow, has, postponed tho. trip until Saturday, as a deputation from the Agricultural Conference, wishes to wait upon him on Friday. The Minister will return to town on Monday.
