i . COMPLAINTS B YSETTLERS. ■ . : A deputation of Waimarama settlers,,com* prising Messrs. P. Keys, W. M'Goffin, and R. Baker, waited upon Mr .A., Dillon, M.P., , at Hastings on Saturday, and asked him to bring before the Government, the necessity . of 'completing, some, of tho, Waimarama,. road contracts, which had been suddenly stopped when not- finished. As a -result ,of tho discus- , sion, Mr. Dillon forwarded tho following telegram:— r •' ■ \ .'-"Tho ,Hon. R. M'Kcnzre, Minister- for Public Works. —Just • received a deputation from the settlors of the Woiiparanta Estato and tho contractors. engaged on tho roads, who complain bitterly of tho position they aro placco ill owing .to, the suddem stoppag'o of the work on tho roads through the settletho main road, on which the present contracts; opening sqveii ingles of tho road could bo completed in a fortnight. at a cost of, £2000. The ■. contracts • wore let in a mile and .half sections, and were, only half, completed when work was stopped .without .notice, leaving ;t?io' Toads ; in a wors<3 cohditioi) than at first., Settlers canuot got their material on to, tlrar-sections, and they ask what has been dome : with .the money placed on the Estimates for this work.
